A Tribute to The Band’s Farewell Concert

“The Last Waltz”

Soundtracks of a Generation presents a tribute to the The Band’s farewell concert performance, “The Last Waltz” as originally seen and heard in the Martin Scorsese concert film of the same name, here performed by Doug James and friends.

Outstanding show, brought back so many memories…

Michele H.

The Soundtrack from the Martin Scorsese documented film ‘The Last Waltz’ was the final concert of the legendary Canadian-American rock group ’The Band’. It was Thanksgiving day 1976 and if that wasn’t special enough, a wide variety of musical genre’s performed on stage at one of Rock’s greatest venues Winterland in San Francisco. Mr. Scorsese was a huge fan of ’The Band’ and had already made his name with directing Mean Streets & Taxi Driver. The Band had already made their mark as the backup band for Bob Dylan in the 60’s when he went electric. However they gained international acclaim and notoriety on their own writing and recording a number of popular albums with hit songs and became famous for staging outstanding live concerts.

This is a show filled with great story lines and the re-creation of incredible performances by ’The Band’ as well as some of the biggest Rock legends who performed at their final show. Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Van Morrison, The Staple Singers, Dr, John, Joni Mitchell, Muddy Waters, Paul Butterfield,  Neil Diamond and Neil Young were a few of the great artists hitting the stage that night! Our goal as always, is to capture the excitement and to bring a sense of realism to the audience that takes them to that special moment in rock n’ roll history.

A Tribute to Aretha Franklin

Born in Memphis in 1942, Aretha Louise Franklin was the daughter of a Baptist minister & her mother was an accomplished piano player and vocalist. Her family relocated to Detroit when young Aretha was 5 and she began singing hymns on the gospel circuit, which is how the legend began. Early on, Dinah Washington called Aretha ‘the next one’.

Soundtracks Of A Generation is proud & honored to feature possibly the clearest stylist of the Aretha Franklin genre, LaShera Moore, in their ‘Soul Bliss’ revue. Directed musically by veteran guitarist Chris Forte, the tight R&B-based outfit behind LaShera performs all the classic, timeless tunes in their fast-paced set.

To be transported back to the Motown studios—Hitsville U.S.A.–on West Grand Boulevard in Detroit, come and see this show!

Thank you for a great night of entertainment for the whole family!!! Frank L.W.

The Core

One Night, Fifty Years of Great Rock, Soul, Funk and Jazz!

Featuring the music of: The Doors | Jimi Hendrix | The Band | Johnny Rivers | The Rolling Stones | Crostby, Stills, Nash & Young | The Monkees | Santana | The Who | The Talking Heads & more!

The Core is the nucleus of Soundtracks of a Generation, just like Booker T & The MG’s were to the Stax record label. The central figures who churn and grind out the rhythm and melody for every song. Their natural abilities and grasp of a wide range of musical genres not to mention their professionalism, are the fundamental reasons other players rely on them to elevate each and every performance.

Occasionally The Core of the band, made up of Keyboardist Jay Martini, Drummer Sal Canzone, Bassist Rick Demski and Guitar virtuoso Dennis Costis, cut loose from the music of our shows and dig into their vast collective knowledge of rock n’ soul, funk & jazz. Call it their moment to exercise individual musical influences, or call it a Jam. To hear them down to the basics, is an intimate look at the heart and soul of the Soundtracks of a Generation experience.

“Dang! That is one great show!”
